5 Maintenance Tips for Your 4-Wheeler

If you’ve ever taken a 4-wheeler out on the trails, then you know how important it is to keep it clean and well-maintained. Not only will regular maintenance keep you safe, but it will also save on expensive repairs in the long run. At Lofty Peaks Adventures LLC, we recommend following these five maintenance tips to keep your 4-wheeler working at its best. 5 Maintenance Tips for Your 4-Wheeler

1. Follow the Maintenance Schedule

The most important way to keep your 4-wheeler operating well is to follow its recommended maintenance schedule. You can find this in the owner’s manual or check with your ATV service technician. A typical maintenance program includes checking spark plugs, fluid levels, filters, hoses and belts, brake pads, and shoes, as well as changing the oil.

2. Check Bolts & Nuts

A loose bolt or wobbly nut can cause an accident while out riding. Take a few moments to be sure they’re securely tightened. You may also want to examine the protective rubber boots around the drive shaft and air intake too as these parts are expensive to repair.

3. Clean Your ATV

A 4-wheeler can get muddy and grimy in no time. Try to wash off any caked-on mud and dirt regularly. If you leave it on for long periods, it could cause the ATV to rust and clog up the air filter.

4. Add Stabilizer to the Gas Tank

A fuel stabilizer can prevent gas from clogging fuel lines and damaging the fuel injectors. Before storing it for the winter, be sure to add this to your 4-wheeler’s gas tank.

5. Examine Handlebar Grips

Another essential part of your ATV to keep in optimal condition is the handlebar grips. These greatly affect how you steer and control your machine. They should grip well and securely attach to the handlebars. If they don’t, you may want to replace them.
