4 Tips for a Fun & Safe Snowmobile Tour

Going on a snowmobile-riding adventure is so much fun, but you also need to be prepared for any unforeseen incidents or emergencies. Lofty Peaks Adventures LLC recommends following these four tips for staying safe and having an amazing time out on the snowy trails.

1. Choose Quality Gear

One of the most important tips for safely riding your snowmobile is to have the right gear and equipment. Along with a helmet and warm riding gloves, you need to think about what you’re wearing. Each layer you wear should keep you warm and dry.
  • The base layer fits snugly and wicks moisture away from your body.
  • The second layer keeps you warm when cold and can be removed when it’s too warm. Fleece is a good second layer.
  • The third layer should be waterproof and also allow moisture to escape.

2. Know the Territory

Before even loading up the sled, check the weather for the day. Will it be clear skies all day or is there a storm moving in by late afternoon? If you’ll be riding on a new trail, do some research so you have a good idea of its conditions and environment. Keep yourself safe and your family worry-free by bringing along a GPS. You can always download an app on your smartphone that will allow your family to track your location in case of an emergency.

3. Bring Water

Riding a snowmobile can be tough on your body. Keep yourself well hydrated by packing some bottled water. In fact, you may want to pack more than you think you’ll need. It’s also a good idea to bring fire-starting material and matches along in case you get stuck. With water and fire, you’ll be taken care of until someone can reach you.

4. Ride with a Friend

Riding with a friend or a group provides you with a safe experience but also a fun and exciting one. Be sure to always stay together and set a designated leader and follower so everyone in your party is accounted for and no one gets lost or left behind.
